Barbara Jean Hoppie Brimley1931~2012Barbara passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 1, 2012. She was born February 12, 1931 to William H. and Verla B. Hoppie in Ogden, Utah. She was the oldest of 6 children. Barbara was married for time and all eternity to Dale Bradford Brimley in the Salt Lake Temple on March 13, 1953. Music was a big part of Barbara's life. Besides her family, one of her greatest joys was singing with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. She participated in their 1955 European Tour and remained a faithful alumni member through the years.Barbara encouraged the development of music in her family and attended countless performances of children and grandchildren. Through her love of music, she taught her family the gospel of Jesus Christ, where faith was planted and testimonies strengthened. She also supported them in many other endeavors such as sports, arts, academics, etc. Her main focus in life was her family. She was their greatest supporter and fan. Barbara enjoyed and was very talented at homemaking skills such as canning, sewing, needle work, and quilting and passed these skills down to her children. She loved and taught her family to love the beauties of nature, including the mountains, the flowers in her yard, and the birds that visit frequently.Barbara enjoyed employment as a secretary for the LDS Church including working for general authorities, the Tabernacle Choir, and the Church Educational System. She served faithfully in many church callings, including a mission to Colonia Juarez, Mexico, with her husband. She also donated numerous hours of time to the Church Humanitarian Program.Barbara is survived by her loving husband, Dale of 59 years; 6 children: Diane Grover, Roland (Leisa), Ken (Linda), Elizabeth, Sharon (Roger) Cook, and Boyd (Janel); 31 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; sisters, Joan (John) Odgen and Janis Williams; brother, Bart (Sheila) Hoppie; brother-in-law, Ivan Pack; sister-in-law, Marian Hoppie.Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Gail Pack; brother, Lynn Hoppie; and great-grandson, Isaac Paul Brimley.A viewing will be held Thursday, August 9, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary (4760 S. State, Murray). Funeral services will be held Friday, August 10, at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Jefferson Ward, 67 W. Clay Park Drive (6400 S.) in Murray, Utah, with a viewing prior to the services from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Interment will be at Salt Lake Memorial Mausoleum. Online condolences at www.jenkins-soffe.com
