Howard Hunter Gordon1923 ~ 2012Our husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend Howard Gordon passed away on Monday September 10, 2012 surrounded by family.He was born May 29, 1923 in American Fork, Utah to George Hudson and Jane Hunter Gordon. He was the third youngest child in a family of nine.Howard served in the US Army from 1943 to 1946; in Hawaii for two years and then in the invasion and occupation in Japan.He met Elaine Wood at BYU and on June 11, 1948 they where married in the Salt Lake temple.He graduated from BYU in 1948 with degree in accounting and business administration. In 1955 he was employed at US Steel, Geneva Works as a supervisor and retired in 1983 after 28 years of service.Howard served on the Board of Directors and as president of American Fork Junior Chamber of Commerce. He received the Distinguished Service Young Man of the Year award in 1955.Howard has served in various church callings including High Priest Group Leader (numerous times), and as a ward and stake missionary. His favorite calling was as Bishop of the American Fork 8th ward.He especially enjoyed the outdoors; hunting, gardening, and camping with family and friends. He and Elaine especially loved traveling in their motor home. He coached his sons in baseball, basketball and golf. He himself was an avid golfer, a fun grandpa and a man of faith. He lived a full, rich life. On top of this, he had such optimism and saw good all about him.He is survived by his wife Elaine, children Lynda (Dennis) Larson, Jill (LaMar) Carroll, Craig (Debbie) Gordon, and Kevin (Lori) Gordon, 16 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Ilene, Edna, Norma, Donna and brothers Glen, Art, Dean and Paul.The family extends gratitude to his many kind friends and neighbors and to the outstanding caregivers Linda, Leah and Quinn with Utah Home Health and Hospice.Funeral services will be held Friday, September 14, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mt Mahogany 8th Ward, 1541 North 1300 West, Pleasant Grove. Friends may call Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Anderson & Sons Mortuary, 49 East 100 North, American Fork and Friday from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the service.
