Delbert Ross Phillips1934 ~ 2012Delbert Ross Phillips passed away peacefully in his home on September 14, 2012 while in the loving care of his wife and sons. Delbert was born the last of six children to his parents William Harrison and Bessie Adele Johnson Phillips on December 16, 1934 in the city of Portland, Oregon.Although Delbert was born with the debilitating condition of Cerebral Palsy, from his childhood he always pushed himself to not let his physical issues stop him from living his dreams. Through much effort and help from friends, he completed his Bachelors of Science degree in Chemistry at Brigham Young University followed by a Doctorate of Jurisprudence from the University of Utah. In January 1966, he met and married his pen pal sweetheart Nancy Huntington. Delbert was active in the community in Washington, D.C. planting seeds for the Americans Disability Act (1990) and was honored as Disabled Government Employee of the year in 1984. Delbert was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout all of his life and served at least two service missions with his wife. He served in various roles and responsibilities and was always willing to help others. During their 46 years of marriage, Delbert and Nancy helped raise their four children and numerous grandchildren. Delbert was preceded in death by his sister Donna Fay Phillips Barthelemy and brothers Harry Lynn Phillips, David France Phillips and Dale Johnson. Delbert is survived by his wife; his daughter Libonas Hancock, sons David Harrison Phillips, Ross Edwin Phillips and Yahya Phillips, nine grandchildren and sister Beth Adel Slenkamp.Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, September 17, 2012, at the Historical Springville Cemetery, 200 West 400 South, Springville, Utah.
