Panthers trying to stay grounded after big upset

PITTSBURGH — Pitt football coach Paul Chryst isn't much on sentiment. When asked where he put the game ball given to him after picking up his first career victory with an upset over Virginia Tech on Saturday, Chryst shrugged his shoulders and said he gave it to a Pitt official and forgot about it.

Chryst says he'll reflect on the victory later. Now he's more concerned about making sure the Panthers (1-2) don't let success go to their heads.

Pitt hosts Gardner-Webb on Saturday. The Runnin' Bulldogs were a last-second schedule fill-in after West Virginia left for the Big 12, but Chryst insists they can't be overlooked. Pitt already lost to Football Championship Subdivision opponent Youngstown State earlier this season.
