BOSTON — Three western Massachusetts Democrats are fighting to win the new 1st Congressional District seat in Washington.
U.S. Rep. Richard Neal, who currently represents the state's 2nd Congressional District, Berkshire County Register of Deeds and former state senator Andrea Nuciforo and humorist and activist Bill Shein will square off in a rare Thursday Democratic primary election on Sept. 6.
The winner of the primary will likely represent Massachusetts' newly redrawn first district in Congress, as no Republican opponent is set to run in the general election.
The state was forced to redraw its Congressional boundaries due to population loss. The district includes 87 cities and towns in the western and central part of the state.
