Obituary: NELSON, ELNA


Elna Guymon NelsonMay 6, 1929 Sept. 23, 2012Elna was born May 6, 1929 in Cortez, Colorado to Willard Morley and Eleanor Jamison Guymon of Blanding Utah. She attended public schools in Blanding graduating from San Juan High school in 1947. She immediately left for Salt Lake where she lived in the Bee Hive House which was a dorm for single girls at that time and worked for The Utah Home Fire Insurance Company.She fulfilled a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Northern States Mission and upon her return she worked for the Utah State Tax Commission and later Inland Empire Insurance Co.On November 21, 1956 Elna married Darwin Nelson in the Salt Lake Temple. They had three Children, Charles, Beverly and Melanie.Elna was active in her church and served many positions but loved to work with Children. She was very talented and worked hard to make sure the children she was responsible for were given more than a period of rest. Elna also loved temple work and worked in the Salt Lake temple in 1954 and 1955 and served as an ordinance worker in the Jordan River temple from 1985-87.Elna worked as a key punch operator and at times after her marriage worked in some interesting places, one of which was for the payroll office of the House of Representatives in Washington DC.Elna spent considerable time as a volunteer in mental health, leading a group for Recovery Inc., a self help group, for many years and receiving recognition from them for her work. She was a volunteer working in the gift shop at Cottonwood Hospital and was honored as volunteer of the month during her time there.Elna loved to read and she loved good music, she has been blessed to have children who also like to read and like good music. She loves the scriptures and she loves her Father in Heaven.Elna is survived by her husband, children, Charles Nelson, daughters, Beverly Martinez (Michael Martinez) and Melanie Peterson ( Phillip W Peterson) and grandchildren, Alisha and Venyce Martinez and Jeffrey, Matthew, and Rebecca Peterson. One sister, Edith Anderson. Preceded in death by a grandson Micheal Peterson, Parents and four brothers.Funeral will be held Thurs., Sept. 27, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Cottonwood Heights 5th Ward, 7075 So. 2245 E. Viewings will be held Wednesday 6:00-7:30 p.m. at the Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 E. 10600 So. and Thurs. at the Ward 9:30-10:45 a.m. Burial Logan City Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. Online condolences: www.larkincares.com
