NEW FAIRFIELD, Conn. — The superintendent of schools in New Fairfield, Conn., says the man who shot a masked intruder to death before realizing it was his son was a well-liked fifth grade teacher who connected with his students.
Police say Jeffrey Giuliano got a call from his sister, who lives next door, that someone was breaking in.
He went there with a gun and found an intruder dressed all in black, wearing a ski mask. Police say Giuliano fired when the intruder came at him with a weapon.
State troopers arrived almost immediately and pulled back the mask to reveal that the intruder was Giuliano's 15-year-old son, Tyler.
New Fairfield Superintendent Alicia Roy says Tyler was described as an easy-going young man who enjoyed being with his family and loved flying planes with the civil air patrol.
