Charles Homer Smith, Jr.1932 ~ 2012Charles Homer Smith, Jr. passed away September 6, 2012 of pancreatic cancer. He was born Feb. 28, 1932 in Aberdeen, Idaho to Marinda Peterson and Charles Homer Smith, Sr. Charles grew up in Aberdeen, working in the potato fields, as assistant custodian at the high school and school bus driver, graduating from Aberdeen High and Idaho State Trade School. Charles served in the US Navy from 1951 1955 during the Korean War. He married Kay Ensign of Ogden, Utah, June 20, 1958 in the Logan LDS temple. Charles was employed by IBM for 35 years as a Customer Engineer, traveling thousands of miles a year servicing computer equipment from Provo throughout southern Utah. He served in many callings in the LDS church, Elders quorum president, High Priest Group Leader, counselor in several bishoprics, ward and stake clerk, member of the stake high council, family history teacher and worker. He and Kay served a mission to Cove Fort, Utah in 1997, and he later served a family history mission. He served all his adult life as a faithful, much-loved home teacher. Charles was a devoted husband and father, loved sailing and working in his wood shop. He is survived by his wife, Kay; children Kelly Charles (Melinda), Bruce Alan, Wendy Kay, Michelle Marie(Eric) Merrill, 12 grandchildren, soon-to-be four great granddaughters; a brother Jim, (Carol) Smith and a sister Arlene (Roland) Thatcher. Preceded in death by his two infant children Spencer and Amy.Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hillcrest Stake Center, 1450 S. 800 E., Orem. A viewing will be held Monday from 6- 8pm at the Sundberg Olpin Mortuary, 495 S. State Street, Orem, and Tuesday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the stake center prior to the services.
