Obituary: HOBBS, LAYNE

Layne Jerry Hobbs"Coach"Layne Jerry Hobbs left the tender loving care of his family on earth and passed into the warm loving arms of his Heavenly Father on January 15, 2013 after a courageous and valiant battle against cancer. Layne was born in Salt Lake City to Jerry (Gilbert) and Sharon Hobbs on October 30, 1960. Layne was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and graduated from Granger High School where he was an exceptional baseball and football player. Layne loved yearly family vacations to Bear Lake and was an avid University of Utah Football and Salt Lake Golden Eagles Hockey fan. Layne's main passion was raising and watching his three children Malaree, Ashley, and Zachary grow and excel in their particular areas of interest. Layne was a dedicated softball coach and cheerleader for his youngest daughter Ashley through competitive youth softball and high school softball at Hunter High and while she received an athletic scholarship to play in Colorado. Layne was very proud that he could count on his oldest daughter Malaree for not only being a wonderful daughter but for being wise beyond her years and for her advice helping raise the family with Layne being a single father. Finally, Layne was proud to see his son Zachary grow and excel in the Illustration and visual artistic field. Layne's mother Sharon was his "angel on earth" while his father, Jerry, was his "hero." Layne is survived by his parents, children: Malaree, Ashley (Myles) and Zachary, siblings: Michael (Cindy), and Allison (Alan) Blain. Layne was blessed and proud to be known as "Papa Layne" by Ashley and Myles's beautiful son Justyce. He was also known as the favorite uncle to his many nephews and nieces. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Redwood Memorial Estates, 6500 S. Redwood Rd. A viewing will be held Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday 1 hour prior to services.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to help the family with funeral expenses at Zions Bank under the name of Layne Hobbs."Layne entered this life fighting, being born premature, and although cancer may have won this battle, he left in peace having won the war."
