Mary Elizabeth Moreton Barton1945 - 2013Our gracious Mary Elizabeth Moreton Barton returned peacefully to the presence of her loving Heavenly Father on the morning of January 15, 2013 from her home, surrounded by family.She was born on June 16, 1925, in Salt Lake City, the second child of Sarah Burton Moreton and Frederick Albert Moreton. She was proud of her pioneer heritage, being the great granddaughter of eight Mormon pioneers who walked across the plains to settle in the Salt Lake Valley.She attended Wasatch Elementary, Stewart Training School, Bryant Jr. High, graduated from East High School, and attended the University of Utah where she was a member of Spurs and Chi Omega. She graduated from the University of California at Berkeley. She served as a nurse aid during the war at Berkeley General Hospital.She was a member of Salt Lake Junior League for 25 years where she served at the Veterans Hospital, Well Baby Clinic, and as a teacher at Special Needs Children's Center. She was a member of DUP and Dinner Set.She married Eliot Dale Barton September 15, 1947. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple by Elder Harold B. Lee December 26, 1952. Dale preceded Mary in death on September 24, 2008.Mary was a devoted wife, angel mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.Mary served in many capacities in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including President of three ward Primaries and counselor, Young Women's counselor, President of two ward Relief Societies and counselor, and twice in Stake Primary Presidencies. She also loved her many years serving as Cub Scout and Nursery leader.Mary loved gardening, knitting, music, genealogy, temple work, and studying the word of God. She was a woman of extraordinary faith and courage, sacrifice and service, patience and prayer. "Count it all joy when ye have many afflictions . . . the trying of your faith worketh patience . . . but let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing." JST James 1:2-4.She is survived by her four siblings, Mrs. Isabelle M. Coates (Wally-deceased), Merced, California; Sharee M. Kunz (Paul), Ogden, Utah; Ed Moreton (Barbara), Salt Lake City, Utah; and Fred Moreton (Lucy), Salt Lake City, Utah.She has five children, 23 grandchildren, and 35 great-grandchildren, all of whom she was most proud and loved very much: Mary Ann B. Howell (Paul), Austin, Texas. Grandchildren: Sarah H. Peterson (Lloyd), John Howell (Jamee), David Howell (Jessica), Amy H. Kitendaugh (Ryan), Paul, Alissa, and Daniel Howell; Edward Eliot Barton (Cindy), Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Grandchildren: Elizabeth B. Jenson (Rob), Michael Barton (Rachel), Robert Barton (Gina), David, John Gregory (deceased), Andrew, and Benjamin Barton; John Robert Barton (Sharon), Salt Lake City, Utah. Grandchildren: Paul Barton (Alyse), Brian Barton (Rachel), Jared Barton (Karlie), Matt Barton, Ben Barton (Hannah); Elizabeth B. Clark (Samuel), Salt Lake City, Utah. Grandchildren: Rebecca C. Holbrook (Matthew), Christopher Clark (Jamie), Mary Kathryn C. Pond (Steve), Caroline C. Taggart (Mark); and Dale M. Barton, Lindsay Lewis, Palm Springs, California.The family wishes to thank the kind doctors and nurses for their expertise and care, especially Dr. Greg Litton (Huntsman Cancer), Dr. Russell Maxwell, Dr. William Rees, Dr. Lilia Loredo (Loma Linda), Dr. Joel MacDonald, and Utah Hospice Specialists.Funeral Services will he held on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at the Monument Park Stake Center, 1320 South Wasatch Drive (2400 East) at 11:00 a.m. A viewing for family and friends will be held on Monday evening January 21, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at the Monument Park Stake Center, 1320 South Wasatch Drive and from 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the Stake Center. Interment will be at Larkin Sunset Lawn Cemetery.
