Alice Moyle Yeates1920~2013Alice Moyle Yeates, the eldest daughter of Henry Dinwoody and Alberta Wright Moyle, passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 23, 2013, at the home of her daughter, Alice Fowler, in Scottsdale, AZ. Alice was born July 26, 1920 in Salt Lake City and spent her childhood in the Cottonwood area.Alice attended schools in Salt Lake City, New York City and Washington D.C. She graduated from the University of Utah where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority, Trotters, and Spurs. She was elected class secretary and served on the student council. After graduation in 1940, Alice worked in her father's election campaign for governor and, thereafter, at the law firm of Moyle, McKay & Burton.Alice married Kenneth Wilson 'Bus' Yeates, Jr. on September 24, 1941. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. In their married life together, Alice and Ken traversed the country: army duty in Texas and California; graduate studies at Harvard; jobs in California, Utah, and Idaho; adding children along the wayseven in all. In 1960, the family returned to Salt Lake where Ken founded and operated Yeates Pipe and Supply Company until his death in 1980. In 1985, Alice married Daken K. Broadhead of Newport Beach, CA. Following his death she returned to Salt Lake City.Throughout her life, Alice was active in church and community service. She served as a Stake YW/MIA president, Ward and Stake Relief Society president in Parley's Stake, YW/MIA general board member (1960-1974), and LDSSA advisor. As an accomplished musician, she was often called upon to fill the seat at the organ or piano. 'Nana' was a gracious hostess and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.Alice is preceded in death by her brothers James Hubert and Richard Wright Moyle (Karen); and sisters Marie Wangeman (Frank), Virginia Marsh (Howard), and Janet Nielsen (Veigh); and her son Kenneth Wilson Yeates III (Jane). She is survived by her brother, Henry D. Moyle, Jr.; sons Dr. Henry M. (Bonnie) and Charles W. (Cheryl); and daughters Dr. Marian Yeates, Marie Ashton (Jack), Elizabeth Bennion (John) and Alice Fowler (Stuart). She is also survived by 40 grandchildren and 54 great-grandchildren. She is their 'Nana' and to them she will always be the "gold standard" of grandmothers.Funeral services will be held Friday, February 1, 2013 at 12 noon at the 27th East Ward, 185 "P" Street. A viewing will be held Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00 at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, and Saturday 10:30-11:45 a.m. at the ward. Interment will follow services at Wastach Lawn Memorial Park.
