SANDY — Real Salt Lake announced Wednesday that it has acquired forward Joao Plata from Toronto FC.
Plata will join Alvaro Saborio, former RSL striker Robbie Findley and rookie Devon Sandoval on the attacking front as the Claret and Cobalt look to erase last year's struggle to find the back of the net down the stretch.
The 20-year-old Plata had 52 appearances across all competitions for Toronto, and notched 10 goals with nine assists.
In return, RSL will send Toronto a second-round pick in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft.
Plata last saw action at LDU Quito, one of Ecuador's most popular clubs in Serie A — the highest level of the Ecuadorian professional soccer league.
"We are happy to add a fast, young forward with MLS experience," said RSL general manager Garth Lagerwey in a released statement. "We believe that Joao can become an impactful member of our team as we continue to work to restock our forward group."
