"Lead, follow or get out of the way," the saying goes. Sen. Orrin Hatch's recent campaign slogan was "Utah's Time to Lead." How has that worked out?

With the "fiscal-cliff" deal — his first chance to show leadership on out-of-control federal spending — he went wobbly, voting for $1 of spending cuts for every $10 of tax increases. That does not reflect Utah family values.

He won't lead in controlling federal spending, and he won't follow Utah voters' values of living within their means. The only thing left for him to do is to get out of the way. Sen. Hatch, do Utahns a favor and resign.
