MURRAY — For the third year in a row, the Humane Society of Utah did not euthanize any adoptable dogs during 2012.
“Itʼs gratifying to everyone in our organization to see the progress thatʼs been made as we work towards becoming a no-kill shelter," said Humane Society executive director Gene Baierschmidt.
Also, with cat adoptions increasing 20 percent during the final five months of last year (compared with an 11 percent decrease during the first seven months) the Humane Society of Utah found homes for more than 7,000 animals during 2012.
"Kitty City has really helped us bolster our efforts, and with the planned renovation of our dog kennels in 2013, we expect to see even more animals adopted in the year to come,” Baierschmidt said.
In 2012, the Humane Society of Utah found homes for 3,663 dogs, 3,290 cats and 359 various other animals including birds, ferrets, rabbits, guinea pigs and mice.
