SALT LAKE CITY — Thousands of people will make strides Saturday — strides through the streets of Salt Lake and strides against breast cancer.
The American Cancer Society of Utah is putting on its eighth annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk on Saturday, Oct. 12. Around 8,000 people, including breast cancer patients and survivors, are expected to participate. The four-mile walk will begin at 9 a.m. at Liberty Park.
Participants can register online or Saturday at the park starting at 7:30 a.m. There are no registration fees for the non-competitive walk, but walkers are encouraged to raise or donate money.
All funds raised will go to breast cancer research and services both in the state of Utah and nationally, according to Cidne Christensen of the American Cancer Society.
So far the American Cancer Society of Utah has raised $120,000 and is hoping to raise an additional $100,000 by the end of the year. The money will go to help the one out of every eight American women who develop breast cancer during their lifetime.
