CURRANT CREEK RESERVOIR, Wasatch County — State wildlife officers are hoping the public can help them track down the person responsible for poaching a cow moose and her bull moose calf earlier this month.
The moose were left to rot on the Wasatch Currant Creek Unit in eastern Wasatch County, according to Utah Division of Wildlife Resources Capt. Torrey Christophersen. Investigators determined the animals had been shot at close range with a high-powered rifle, the captain said.
Wildlife officers were led to the moose by elk hunters, who found the animals 2 miles west of Currant Creek Reservoir near the Racetrack area, Christophersen said. The cow moose and her calf were likely killed on Oct. 5 or Oct. 6, he said.
Anyone with information related to the illegal killing of the moose or any other wildlife crime is urged to call the state's Help Stop Poaching hotline at 800-662-3337.
"Rewards are available, and requests for confidentiality are respected," Christophersen said.
