SALT LAKE CITY — Families were invited to the Pumpkin Festival at The Gateway’s Olympic Legacy Plaza on Friday.

The pumpkins, paint and decorating materials were provided by event sponsors — the Utah Foster Care Foundation and the Utah Educational Savings Plan.

While kids decorated pumpkins, parents could speak with foster parents about the foster care experience.

“Halloween is yet another time of the year for families,” said Dan Webster, the Utah Foster Care Foundation’s area representative for Salt Lake Valley. “While your family is having fun, it’s a good time to remember that there are children in foster care who would love to have a foster family to be part of during Halloween and the other fun times of the year.”

There are 2,600 children in foster care in Utah, and more foster families are needed to care for them. For more information on foster parenting, visit www.utahfostercare.org.
