John L. Cornish5/27/1922 ~ 10/20/2013John Lewyn Cornish, 91, died peacefully at his home. He was born in Lowestoft, Suffolk, England to George and Beatrice May Cornish. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints since 1931 when he was baptized in the North Sea. He married Joy Edith Palmer on March 2, 1951 in the Salt Lake Temple. He was the father of five children: Wendy (Paul) Philbrick, Michelle (Carl) Sepos, Ian (Ginger) Cornish, Nick Cornish and Jacqueline Meik. He has 19 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Jean Marchant.He fulfilled two stake missions. He served in the Bishopric of the Millcreek 2nd Ward in 1985-86 and held many church positions. He served in the British Royal Navy in World War II, from October 1939 to March 1946.He loved boating, sailing, reading, camping and doing things with is family. Employed by Purity Biscuit Co., Ajax Presses and Christiansen Diamond Products as an accountantretiring in 1986.The family would like to thank Marlee, his nurse from Rocky Mountain Care, and volunteer, Joel Tippetts, for his genuine kindness. A special thank you to his granddaughter, Paula Philbrick, who was always there to help.Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 24, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bennion Stake Center located at 6250 South 2200 West. A viewing will be held on Wednesday evening, October 23, 2013, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Street.
