LOS ANGELES — Doubles duo Andrey Goryachkov and Francis Sargeant dominated their competition to secure a spot in the semifinals as the BYU men's tennis team concluded its third day at the 57th Annual Southern California Intercollegiate Championships on Friday.
Goryachkov and Sargeant defeated Tobias Galskov and Cory Karen of UC Santa Barbara, 8-3. They followed with an 8-4 win over Ryan Cheung and Caryl Hernandez of UC Irvine. The BYU doubles team will continue their run against UCLA’s Mackie McDonald and Karue Sell.
In singles, both BYU players were ousted in the quarterfinals of the main draw. Sargeant fell to UCLA’s McDonald, 6-4, 6-2. Freshman Juan Canales was defeated by Ziad Sultan of UCSB, 6-3, 7-5.

Goryachkov advanced to the semifinals of the consolation bracket with a win over Sebastian Bustamante of LMU, 6-2, 6-0. Goryachkov takes on UC Irvine's Caryl Hernandez at 11 a.m. PDT Saturday.
Competition continues Saturday in the fourth day of the Southern California Intercollegiate. Tournament results can be followed on the USTA website.
