Westminster is making just its second trip to the NAIA National Championships in school history. The Griffins have recorded an 11-7-2 record as they enter the tournament, and they qualified by winning the Unaffiliated Conference Tournament earlier this month. They enter Saturday’s game riding a four-game winning streak and 2-3-2 in road games.
Westminster averages 1.95 goals per game, and the 39 goals scored this season are the second-most by the team in school history. The Griffins are taking 14.5 shots per game with 58.3 percent of those attempts on goal. They have notched 23 assists and have taken 85 corner kicks.
Griffin opponents are scoring just 0.70 goals per game, and Westminster leads the conference in that department. Westminster posted 10 shutouts during the season, the 11th-most in the NAIA, and it hasn't allowed a goal in the last 396 minutes of action. The Griffins limit the opposition to 6.1 shots per game with 52.9 percent of those shots being on goal.
Westminster is 0-2 all-time against Westmont and 0-1 in meetings in Santa Barbara. The last meeting was a 4-0 win by the Warriors at home on Sept. 7, 2012. The two also met at Dumke Field on Aug. 28, 2010, when Westmont won, 2-1.
