I have seen that there are some passionate feelings on both sides of this issue. As someone who has greatly benefited from caucus meetings, let me explain why I would like to keep this system as long as appropriate rule changes that have been discussed are made.
The caucus meetings have allowed me to get involved and work with my neighbors and political candidates in ways that I don't think I would have otherwise. I understand the sentiment that someone really wants their vote to count without getting involved, but that's not going to change if we were to do away with the caucus meetings.
I am now a precinct chair and had the opportunity to work on a U.S. Senate campaign for the 2012 election. Not that I did a lot, but that was a real privilege for me to get to know Dan Liljenquist and work with him and others when he ran against Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah.
As much as I respect my friends and neighbors who are on the "count my vote" side of this issue, I have to totally disagree. I would greatly miss this process if the caucus system were to go away.
