KANSAS CITY — Utah Valley University dropped its regular season finale Sunday afternoon, falling 3-0 to Kansas City at Durwood Stadium.

With the loss, UVU (9-9-1, 7-4-1 WAC) finishes its first season in the WAC in third place, two points behind second-place UMKC (11-8-1, 8-4-1) and 11 points back of regular season champion Seattle U.

After scoring twice Friday at New Mexico State, the Wolverines were held scoreless Sunday despite outshooting the Kangaroos, 14-11, and putting eight shots on goal compared to five from the home team.

"We put in a lot of effort today, but simply weren't on the same page and focused where we needed to be," head coach Brent Anderson said. "As we look forward to the tournament we will make a few simple adjustments and look to improve our performance next week."

UMKC standout Taylor Bare opened the scoring in the 14th minute, finishing a cross from Ellie Chadick. The senior completed the double less than a quarter of an hour later, tapping home Sarah Todd's low cross across the goal mouth to double the advantage.

With a career-high 13 goals on the season, Bare is now tied with SU's Stephanie Verdoia for most goals scored in the WAC this season.

Freshman Lauren Zach provided the finishing touches in the 70th minute, scoring her first goal of the season to settle the final tally.

Kim Stratford fired a team-high four shots Sunday, while Lexi Dunn and McKell Salmon finished with three attempts. Stratford, along with Lexi Robison, Sara Ranck and goalkeeper Lauren Sack, played all 90 minutes for the Wolverines.

Sack, a senior, closed her regular season career with three saves, including a diving stop of Abby Shimota's penalty kick in the 90th minute.

Having split the season series, Utah Valley and Kansas City will meet for a third time at the WAC Tournament next Friday. The two sides will meet in the second semifinal match, pitting the second and third seeds against one another. The winner will advance to Sunday's championship match for a chance to compete for the WAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Friday's semifinal gets underway at 2 p.m. MT, from host NM State's Soccer Athletic Complex. Seattle U will meet Idaho in the first semifinal at 12 p.m.
