The annual Christmas tree lighting and Christmas in Old Nauvoo will be at 6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6, at the Nauvoo Visitors’ Center, 350 N. Main, Old Nauvoo, Ill.

The tree lighting ceremony includes the Hamilton High School Jazz Band and the Warsaw High School Chorus.

After the ceremony, decorated horse-drawn carriages and wagons will be available to take passengers caroling at the Cultural Hall. The horse-drawn wagons will be available to shuttle people to and from the visitors center until 9 p.m.

The main part of Old Nauvoo will be decorated for a 1840s-era Christmas.

A live nativity will be at the Cultural Hall, old-fashioned Christmas stories told at several of the historic sites and refreshments with live Christmas music at the Family Living Center.

There will be five outdoor fire barrels to warm visitors, with carolers singing at each of them.

The event is free and open to the public.
