SALT LAKE CITY— A man is in critical condition after being hit by a TRAX train.

Just before 8 p.m. Sunday, Salt Lake City Fire crews responded to a call that a person had been hit by a TRAX train near 200 W. 2100 South, according to Jasen Asay, spokesperson for Salt Lake City Fire Department.

They found a 29-year-old man who had been critically injured by the impact. Ground crew paramedics took the man to a hospital.

The man told responding officers "that he was trying to commit suicide," according to Salt Lake City Police Lt. Carl Merino.

Asay and Merino did not have additional information. Utah Transport Authority is handling the investigation.

More information will be provided as it becomes available.
