HERRIMAN — Middle school students worked together to amass a large donation for the needy.

In an eight-day collection campaign, the student body at Fort Herriman Middle School rallied and brought in enough food to fill 17 large pallets, an estimated 20,000 pounds.

Utah Food Bank officials say it is the single largest contribution by a school in the food bank’s history, rivaling or beating contributions made by many big business. Each pound of food equates to a $2 donation, the equivalent of a $40,000 donation from the students, according to food back officials.
