Man killed crossing Wall Avenue in Ogden

OGDEN — A man was killed crossing Wall Avenue near 2700 South on Wednesday night.

A woman driving south hit the man as he was attempting to cross four lanes of traffic on Wall Avenue just after 6 p.m., Ogden Police Lt. Tim Scott said.

The man was not in a crosswalk but was crossing the road about a block south of a crosswalk leading to St. Anne's Center, a homeless shelter at 137 W. Binford Ave. where pedestrians have been hit in the past — some fatally, Scott said.

Police do not believe speed was a factor in the accident, and the driver was not impaired, Scott said. An investigation will determine whether any charges will be recommended for the driver.

There were street lamps near where the man was struck, though lighting is better near the crosswalk, Scott said.

Police did not release the man's identity Wednesday pending notification of family.
