James Robert Gonsalves1961 ~ 2013We are saddened to announce the passing of our loving husband and wonderful father Jim Gonsalves December 14th after a long battle with a Lower Motor Neuron Disease. Before the disease forced him into a wheelchair, Jim was an avid skier, runner, golfer, pilot, gym rat, a meticulous groomer with perfect hair and a pristine smile, but he was most proud of his involvement at St. Mary's of the Assumption Catholic Church in Park City Utah, where he was the band leader of the Sunday evening youth mass for approximately 15 years. St. Mary's was his home-away-from-home and his other family, and even as his disease took away his ability to stand, play guitar, and in the last weeks sing, it was his passion and devotion that gave him the strength to continue fighting. His quick wit and sharp sense of humor helped him get through his disease, a marvelous trait he passed on to his wife, Tracy, and children Meagan, Steven, and Carrolyn, his various other "adopted" children, an almost son-in-law, and two "grandchildren".Services will be held at St Mary's of the Assumption White Pine Canyon Church (on Hwy 224) in Park City Utah. Friday 12/20/13 Visitation 6:00pm and Vigil Service 6:30pm / Saturday 12/21/13 Memorial Mass 10:00am.In lieu of flowers, please contribute to St. Mary's of the Assumption Catholic Church to aid in a wish that Jim, among others, had: the hopeful planning and construction of a proposed Columbarium Wall on St. Mary's property as a final resting place. We can't think of a better way to honor his memory than to try and get the wall approved and built. Checks may be made out to St Mary's Building Fund (with Jim's name in the memo line) and sent to the parish office at 1505 White Pine Canyon Road, Park City, UT 84060.
