Man dressed as Santa robs bank on Christmas Eve

WEST VALLEY CITY — A man partially dressed as Santa Claus was apparently more interested in taking than giving on Christmas Eve.

A man wearing a Santa cap and a fake white beard made of cotton balls, entered University of Utah Credit Union, 2755 S. Redwood Road, about 9:40 a.m. Tuesday and demanded money, said West Valley Deputy Police Chief Mike Powell.

The bank robber was described as a black male, between 35 and 40 years old, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, and was last seen wearing a dark sweatshirt, blue jeans and light colored gloves.

That bank robbery was one of two in Salt Lake County on Tuesday.

Just before 11 a.m., a man entered Health Care Credit Union, 769 E. South Temple, and demanded money, according to Salt Lake police. The man left with an undisclosed amount of cash.

He was described as a white man, between 20 and 30 years old, about 5 feet 7 inches tall, 150 pounds, with tattoos on his neck. He was last seen wearing dark rimmed glasses, a black beanie cap, black gloves and a dark jacket.

Anyone with information in the West Valley robbery is asked to call police at 801-840-4000 or 801-799-3000 in the Salt Lake robbery.
