3-ingredient healthy holiday dip

Every December my taste buds look forward to my culinary indulgences. But one year, I found all the delectableness overwhelming. I craved healthier options, foods that were lower in fat and had, gasp, vegetables in them. After looking around, I came across this dip in my files and decided to give it a try. Admittedly, I was nervous about a dip almost solely consisting of cottage cheese. I mean, cottage cheese was a high-protein snack a nutritionist had once encouraged me to eat. Wasn’t that too healthy to be enjoyable?

I decided to give the dip a try and was delighted with how it turned out. Then, I was making it for every Christmas party I was invited to. People couldn’t figure out what my delicious dip consisted of and many pleaded for the recipe. When I divulged the recipe, eyebrows were usually raised at its simplicity. Only three ingredients were in such a delicious concoction? But, once they tried it themselves, everyone who ate this became believers.

The dip has been added to my holiday repertoire and now not only do I enjoy it each holiday season, but my family does as well. This high-protein, low-carbohydrate dip helps calm both my sugar-filled stomach and my guilt-ridden mind every year. I enjoy making this for our family parties and love the change it adds to the normally junk-food-laden countertop.

The only thing this dip needs is presentation. I’ve found that, with its green and white colors, it is quite festive looking alongside healthy counterparts such as green cucumber chips and slices of red peppers. But whether you eat it with a tray of veggies or a sleeve of buttery crackers, this dip is delightfully easy and a healthy addition to any holiday party.



12 ounces cottage cheese

6 green onions

Dash of salt

Serve with vegetables such as cucumbers, red peppers, or carrots for the health-conscious or buttery crackers for those wanting to indulge.

Mix cottage cheese with chopped green onions. Add salt to taste. My favorite way to eat this dip is with sliced cucumbers. My husband and kids, however, prefer the buttery crackers. Which is your favorite?
