Mack William Richmond1922 ~ 2013Mack W. Richmond quietly left his earthy home on Saturday, December 21, 2013. He was 91. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was born in Payson, Utah to Benjamin "Vern" and Idell Richmond. He had an older and a younger sister. The family moved to Salt Lake City, where he was raised, and after graduating from South High School, he joined the Army Air Corp, 59th Trooper Carrier Squadron. He served his country for over 2 years in Africa and Europe. He was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation for heroism and combat valor.Mack married Barbara Jean Gettle on January 1, 1949. Together they had 6 children. Later divorced. Dad built our first home in Salt Lake City, but in 1957 we moved to Midvale, Utah where we owned the Copper View Motel. Dad ran the motel and worked full time for United Airlines. After retiring from United, he moved to Fountain Green where he met and married Christine Willequer. Later deceased. He bought the Shepherd's Lodge Motel in Nephi, Utah and lived there until he moved to Lehi, Utah in 1998.Dad loved music and loved to write. He was a self-taught pianist and guitar player. He was an award winning oil painter and many of his paintings are displayed in local High Schools. He was very energetic and had a real sense of humor. He loved to garden and loved riding motorcycles. Dad was fortunate to have the best neighbors in the State. They cared for him with kindness and mercy. He was tough to handle at times but they didn't give up on him. His neighbor, George Dutson was like the "brother" that dad never had. The Morgan family was a great comfort to him and they were there at the end to help him on his way.He is survived by his first wife, Barbara Casper, and children; Louise (Eldon) Thatcher, Susan (Ron) Stewart, James (Aimee) Richmond, Marilee Richmond, and Mark Richmond. He had 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and one on the way. He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters, and one daughter.Funeral Services will be Saturday, December 28th, 2013 at noon at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah, with a viewing one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Salt Lake City Cemetery. The family would like to thank Intermountain Homecare, especially Kim and Suzie for their tender care and concern.
