SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Transit Authority has unveiled a new way for commuters to figure out which bus to catch.

RideTime text messaging utilizes real-time data to help riders determine bus departure times for more than 6,500 stops throughout the UTA service area, according to the agency.

Riders can use their mobile device to find the "Stop ID" — a six-digit location number usually displayed on one side of the bus stop sign. They then can text the Stop ID number to UTA-UTA (882-882), then send. RideTime replies with the next three bus stop departure times from that location.

"We are excited to make the RideTime text service available to our passengers," UTA spokesman Remi Barron said. "RideTime takes the guesswork and uncertainty out of riding the bus. With a quick text message, people can find out when their bus will come, (and) that means shorter wait times and easier planning for riders."
