Ethel May McGee Palmer 1915 ~ 2013Ethel May McGee Palmer passed away peacefully on January 29 at her home surrounded by family. Born March 30, 1915 in Drake, Saskatchewan, Canada to Adele Hilda Jantz and Robert Henry McGee. She married Brent Mariger Palmer (divorced) with whom she owned and operated the Pet Corral for 27 years. She was a devoted member of the LDS church, serving in many positions. Her favorites included working with the single adults and at the Salt Lake Temple. She served her mission in Columbia, South Carolina in 1983-4. Her interests lead to her passionate involvement in government, education, volunteering, and genealogy. She also enjoyed music, theater, U of U sports, and reading. She is survived by two children, Janet Simonich (Jack Neeway) and Scott (Annette) Palmer; grandchildren, Cameron, Lacey, Brooke, Abby, and Whitley; two great-grandchildren; sister, Ellen Cougill; and her 5 other "children" to whom she generously opened her home.She is preceded in death by her sister Frieda Hester, parents, and many dear friends. Grandma was incredibly compassionate, intelligent, and determined. She was special in a way that escapes description. She chose to impart her wisdom by example, but would freely advise. Her memory lives on through her insatiable love of chocolate and her quotable quote "Do what you can when you can" and birthday song phone calls. She left us the legacy of a life lived in beauty and grace.Friends may call from 1-3 on Saturday, Feb. 2 at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 Highland Dr. Graveside service will follow at 3:00 p.m.The family wishes to acknowledge the extraordinary care and compassion provided by Dr. Gottlieb, his assistant Tammy, and Good Shepherd Hospice. In lieu of flowers, Ethel requested donations to charities of your choosing.
