Obituary: MABEY, FAY

Fay Thomas MabeySeptember 9, 1923 ~ April 7, 2013Fay Thomas Mabey completed her earthly mission and returned to her Heavenly Father on April 7, 2013.Fay was born at home on September 9, 1923 in Logan, Utah to Wilford and Laura Hansen Thomas. Mom graduated from South High School in 1942 and in July 1943 married Donald H. Mabey: marriage later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. This July Dad and Mom would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. While dating Dad, Mom always told him that she wanted a dozen children, they finally settled for six a half dozen.Mom was an excellent cook, homemaker, seamstress, story teller, water fight starter, baseball player, bowler, dancer, lover of all animals, and a friend to all. Mom always surprised us with homemade treats after a day at school. Mom was very devoted to her children, while dad traveled the world with his career she insisted on staying home to care for us. Mother was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She also volunteered many hours organizing the Children's Days of 47 Parade. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Mom's faith in the Savior was a constant guide in her life. Mom taught us to love other, never judge, fulfill our church callings, and be kind to all. Mom served in many church callings but loved the time she served with her friends, Jane, Elna, and JoAnne in Mutual. We will miss Mom's great sense of humor, her amazing whistle, her love of family, and just plain being with her. In 1957 Mom and Dad were transferred to North Bay, Ontario, Canada. Our home became popular with the missionaries under the direction of President Thomas S. Monson. The missionaries loved Mom's cooking and Dad's ability to fix their cars but most of all their hospitality. We will be forever grateful to our Mother for teaching us to love everyone as she did. Mom is survived by her devoted husband of 69+ years, Don and her six children, Craig, Scott, (Pat), Janice, (Alan) Fletcher, MaryLyn, (Darrell) Cheney, Gina, (John) Bruening, and Troy, (Shannon) Mabey, also 21 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Mom is preceded in death by her parents Wilford Thomas Sr. and Laura Hansen Thomas and a brother, Wilford Thomas Jr. Funeral services will be Monday, April 15, 11:30 a.m. at the East Millcreek North Stake Center on 3408 Celeste Way, (3000 E.).
