Dorothy Hurst1924 ~ 2013Dorothy Bateman Hurst, 88, passed away on April 13, 2013 in American Fork, Utah. She was born on August 2, 1924 in Murray, Salt Lake, Utah to Royal and Maude Bateman.Dorothy grew up in Murray, Utah. She graduated from Jordan High School. After high school she worked to support herself while living at home.Dorothy married R. Lyle Hurst on December 8, 1942 in the Salt Lake City Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They relocated to San Diego where they spent over 50 years. They were happily married for 70 years. She was an active member of the LDS church serving as Primary Chorister, Relief Society President, and service missionary with Lyle in the San Diego area as well as a temple worker in the San Diego Temple. She enjoyed reading, cooking, and going out of her way to care for her family and many close friends.Dorothy is survived by her husband, Lyle, of Eagle Mountain, Utah; her daughters Lorraine Rice of Layton, Utah, Beverly Schwurack and Joanne Cosgrove of Eagle Mountain, Utah and son Russell Hurst of Ridgecrest, California; 15 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and other relatives.Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents Royal and Maude and her siblings Alden, Grace, Clell, Leila, Wayne, Melba, and Kenneth.A viewing will be held at the Eagle Mountain 1st Ward (3793 Rose Hearty Lane) in Eagle Mountain, Utah at 11:00am, Saturday, April 20, 2013. An informal graveside service will be held Monday, April 22, 2013 at Greenwood Memorial Park and Mortuary in San Diego, California where she will be laid to rest.
