Obituary: MCARTHUR, DR. E.

Dr. E. Dan McArthurTogether AgainOur wonderful father, Edward Daniel McArthur died Thursday April 18, 2013 in Mesa, Arizona peacefully in his sleep at age 93. He was born October 19, 1919 to Daniel Duncan McArthur and Hattie Amanda Cox in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was a member of the L.D.S Church. On July 1, 1943 he married Billie Lou Billingsley in San Francisco, California while attending dental school at The University of the Pacific. He graduated from East High School, University of Utah where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha, and dental school. Upon graduation from dental school he served in the US Army during WWII. He did dental work on regular GI's, Generals and German Prisoners of War.After the war he and Billie settled in Utah, where he practiced in Salt Lake City and Murray, Utah. He loved his patients and always spoke of them fondly. He retired in 1985 and they moved to Mesa, Az. to "get warm." He had a lifelong love of horses especially Arabian horses. He was lucky enough to indulge this love during his lifetime. He raised and showed them on the local, national, and international level. He won many championships and grand-championships. He was a founding member of the Utah Arabian Horse Club and the International Arabian Horse Club. He also served as president of both clubs.He is survived by his children: Susan (Jim) Oliver, South Jordan, Utah; Dan (Colleen) McArthur, Mesa, Ariz.; and Linda (Mark) Conish, Pineville, Pa. His grandchildren are: Jim, Amy, Lesley, Katy, and Brooke Oliver, Amanda and Jenny McArthur, and Adam and Natalie Conish. He has 23 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. He was the best Gramps to them all.He is also survived by his brother, Art McArthur, SLC; and his sister, Maurine Crossett, Louisville, Ky.He was preceded in death by his beloved Billie in 1989. He missed her every day. He was also preceded in death by his parents; sister Afton; brother Marden; and granddaughters Lesley and Katy.He was a cheerful, kind and loving father and friend. He had no enemies. We loved him and will always miss him. His life was a success.Services will be held Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at 11:00 am at Jenkins- Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Street, Murray, Utah, with a Viewing at 10:00 am that morning. Burial will follow at Murray City Cemetery.We are forever grateful to Dan and Colleen for their loving care of Dad during his last years. Many thanks to those caregivers who also helped in his care.
