Utah State men's track and field freshman runner Briton Page won the Lon Spurrier men's 800m race with a time of 1:49.56 at the University of California hosted Brutus Hamilton Invitational on Saturday. For Page, it is his fourth-straight sub 1:50.00 effort this season as he ranks 20th in the nation for the event.

USU's women had 14 top-six finishes Saturday, including sophomore Chari Hawkins who placed second in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.09, second in the high jump with a height of 1.69m (5-06.50) and fourth in the long jump with a leap of 5.64m (18-06.00). Joining Hawkins in a tie for second place in the high jump were fellow sophomores Rachel Orr, Jodi Williams and Mariah Thompson. Freshman Tylee Newman and sophomore Laycee Elliott also placed second in their respective events as Newman ran a 4:29.37 in the M. Davis 1,500m and Elliott clocked a time of 1:01.49 in the 400m hurdles.

"We have had nice weather and we had a good meet," Utah State head coach Gregg Gensel said. "I think that we accomplished a lot of things today confidence wise with the younger athletes and even with our veterans. I think we are as solid as we can be heading into the final week of training before the conference tournament."

Junior Kylie Hirschi tabbed a third-place finish in the women's 400m hurdles (1:01.83), while fellow juniors Keeley Eldredge and Kaylee Hartshorn placed third in the shot put and javelin with marks of 12.29m (40-04.00) and 41.78m (137-01), respectively. Placing fourth for the Aggie women included sophomore Melanie Heslop in the shot put with a throw of 12.16m (39-10.75), as well as the 4x100m relay team ( 47.98) that consisted of senior Bri Campbell, freshman Mikkell Minnoch and Kaitlyn Wilcox, along with Hawkins. Sophomore Cree Phillips Taylor rounded out the top-six placers for the Utah State women with a sixth place award in the 100m hurdles (14.92).

Placing second for the USU men as part of 16 top-six finishes was sophomore Nic Bowens in the 200m (21.61), senior Will Henry in the 100m (10.56), and the 4x100m (40.49) and 4x400m relay teams (3:14.98). The 4x100m relay team consisted of Bowens and Henry, as well as freshmen Jacob Bautista Jr. and Cole Lambourne. The 4x400m relay team was made up of Lambourne and Page, as well as freshman Justin Jenkins and senior Tyler Killpack. Bowens also placed third in the 100m with a time of 10.62, as did Killpack in the Lon Spurrier 800m race (1:50.38), while Lambourne placed fourth in the 400m (47.95).

Freshman Sam Nelson placed third in the pole vault with a personal-best vault of 4.76m (15-07.25), while sophomore Michael Cardinal and junior Bryce Hall finished in third place for the shot put and discus with throws of 17.04m (55-11.00) and 51.33m (168-05), respectively. Cardinal also placed sixth in the discus with a mark of 47.14m (154-08). Rounding out the top-six placers for the Aggie men was freshman Kevin Allen who placed fourth in the discus with a toss of 48.52m (159-02), while sophomore Dan Mosman placed fourth in the 100m hurdles 15.06 and fifth in the 400m hurdles (55.76), along with fellow sophomore Eric Shellhorn placing fourth in the Don Bowden 1,500m race (4:07.39).

USU track and field will take a week off to prepare for the 2013 WAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships that will be hosted by the University of Texas at Arlington at Maverick Stadium on Wednesday through Saturday, May 8-11.
