SALT LAKE CITY — The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announced Monday that infielder Erick Aybar will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Salt Lake in tonight's home game against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox. Game time is 6:35 p.m.
In additional movement, infielder Tommy Field has been placed on the disabled list with a broken finger and right-handed pitcher Kip Wells has been reassigned to Salt Lake from extended spring training. The Angels have also acquired right-handed pitcher Rob Delaney from the Baltimore Orioles via trade for catcher Chris Snyder. Delaney has been assigned to Salt Lake.
Aybar, 29, was placed on the 15-day disabled list on April 10 with a bruised left heel. In seven games with the Angels this season, he owns a .321 batting average with two doubles and one RBI. Aybar spent time with the Bees in 2006 and 2007 on his way to becoming an everyday infielder for the Angels. His most recent appearance with the Bees came during a one-game rehab assignment on April 18, 2011. In 85 games for Salt Lake, he has a .285 average with 20 doubles, 47 RBIs and 34 stolen bases. The Dominican Republic native was originally signed by the Angels as a free agent in 2002.
Field, 26, has appeared in 18 games for the Bees in 2013, hitting .234 with six doubles and seven RBIs. He has also appeared in three games for the Angels this season. The Austin, Texas, native was claimed off waivers from Minnesota by the Angels on Nov. 28, 2012, and originally signed with the Colorado Rockies as a free agent in 2008.
Wells, 36, has not appeared in a game in 2013 after signing with the Angels on April 13. A major-league veteran of 12 seasons, Wells spent 2012 with both the San Diego Padres and Tucson Padres. In 296 big league games (219 starts), he has a 4.71 ERA with 963 strikeouts. The Houston, Texas, native was originally selected by the Chicago White Sox with the 16th overall pick of the 1998 draft.
Delaney, 28, has appeared in three games for Triple-A Norfolk in 2013. He made his major league debut with Minnesota in 2010 and also appeared in four games with Tampa Bay in 2011. The reliever from Westwood, N.J., originally signed with Minnesota as a free agent in 2006.
