SALT LAKE CITY — State Democratic Party Chairman Jim Dabakis announced Wednesday he's running again for his party's top spot, but his counterpart at the GOP, Thomas Wright, is not seeking re-election.

Wright said last week it's time "to take a break from full-time politics" to spend more time with his family and at his business, Summit Sotheby's International Realty. The party chairmanships are volunteer posts.

Dabakis, who is also a state senator, said if elected to a second two-year term as state Democratic Party chairman he intends to "continue calling the GOP out and telling the truth, even when it makes things a bit uncomfortable."

Democrats will choose their party leaders at their state convention June 22 in Ogden. Republicans will hold their state convention May 18 in Sandy. So far, no one has filed to run for GOP chairman.
