Death toll in Egypt's clashes between Muslims and Christian rises to 2

CAIRO — A senior Egyptian health ministry official says the death toll in clashes between Muslims and Christians in Cairo has risen to two. Eighty-nine people were injured.

Health Ministry official Khaled el-Khateib said Monday that the identity of the second fatality was not immediately known. The first fatality was Christian.

The clashes took place outside the St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Cathedral in Cairo on Sunday following a funeral service for four Christians killed in sectarian violence the day before. A Muslim was also killed in the violence in Khosoos, a town just north of Cairo.

During the funeral service, mourners chanted against Islamist President Mohammed Morsi, calling on him to step down. Morsi condemned the violence, saying he considered any attack on the cathedral as an attack against him personally.
