PHOENIX — Ryan McDonough worked his way through the Boston Celtics organization with a tireless work ethic and attention to detail.
Those attributes are what landed the 33-year-old his first job as a general manager, for the Phoenix Suns.
McDonough started in the Celtics video room and spent the past three seasons as assistant general manager under Danny Ainge.
McDonough was hired on Tuesday, but has already started to dig in at his new job, working on a list of potential head coaching candidates with owner Robert Sarver and President of Basketball Operations Lon Babby.

He also will have to fill out his staff, prepare for the NBA draft and identify players the Suns might be able to get through free agency.
