Karen Youngberg Emerson 1944 ~ 2013Our mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend Karen Emerson passed away peacefully May 7, 2013 at the age of 68 following her three-month struggle with cancer. Karen was born August 2, 1944. She was the oldest daughter of Florence Irene Cummings and Glen Elden Youngberg. She grew up in Salt Lake City and graduated from Olympus High School.Karen loved nature, the mountains and the ocean, and all animals especially her dogs. The past twenty-five years were spent in the outdoors serving as a campground host in places ranging from northern Idaho to Georgia. Karen also loved people and was quick to make new friendships, but was always excited to return to loved ones at home.Karen was the mother of Don Youngberg and Troy (Melaina) Youngberg, and the grandmother of Tanner Youngberg. She is survived by her sons and grandchild, as well as her mother and her brother, James (Debra) Youngberg, and her sister-in-heart, Ruth Ann White. The family wishes to thank the medical staffs of Garden Terrace and LDS Hospital who, with professionalism and love, tended to Karen's care throughout her final months. The loving wishes and visits by family members and friends, including from the Preston Place community were also greatly appreciated.
