Rex W Bass1927 ~ 2013Our loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, Rex W Bass passed away May 7, 2013. Rex was born February 9, 1927 in Bluffdale, Utah to Glen and Marie Wood Bass. He married Carol Austin, November 1, 1950.Rex loved golfing, camping, barbecues and mostly spending time with his family. He graduated from Jordan High School. He served his country in the Navy during World War II, and had been an active member of the American Legion since 1956. During his membership in Post 132 and District 8 he held all possible offices. He was the American Legion Utah State Commander in 1992 and 1993. Until his passing he held the position of Chaplin in Post 132 and District 8. Rex also served for 28 years as a counselor for Utah Boys State which was held yearly at Weber State University. He participated in the burial squad for war veterans for over 35 years and performed ceremonies at over 2000 burials. Rex was awarded the "Highest Honor to Fellowed Veterans" from the State of Utah Department of Veterans Affairs.He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carol M. Bass; sons, Scott (Colleen) Bass, Kevin (Robyn) Bass, Paul (Teresa) Bass; daughters, Rosemary Garrett, Marsha (Mike) Hansen, and Carrie (Ken) Burbidge. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Glenn Bass and Kent Bass; son-in-law, Jack Garrett and great-granddaughter, Allyson Haun.Funeral services will be held Monday, May 13th, 11:00 a.m. at Redwood Memorial Mortuary, 6500 So. Redwood Rd. with a viewing Sunday evening from 6 8 p.m. at the mortuary and one hour prior to services on Monday.
