PRINCETON, N.J. — Once again, junior distance runner Jared Ward led the way for the Cougars with a first-place finish in the 5,000 meters during day one of the ECAC/IC4A Championships. Ward finished with a time of 13 minutes 59.56 seconds to become the first BYU men's track and field athlete to win a conference championship at the ECAC/IC4A Championships.
Teammates Tylor Thatcher and Thomas Gruenewald finished fourth and fifth overall in the 5,000 with times of 14:08.42 and 14:09.24, respectively.
In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Steve Flint finished second overall with a time of 8:51.81. James Tracy and Curtis Carr finished sixth and seventh overall with times of 8:55.46 and 8:56.39, respectively.
In the decathlon, Chase Dalton currently ranks third, while Joshua Weirich sits in sixth.
