Paul Elon Leix1953 ~ 2013Paul Elon Leix passed away on May 10, 2013, at the Hunstman Cancer Hospital of Glioblastoma at the age of 60. He was born on March 6, 1953 to Elon and Helen Schack Leix in Flint, Michigan. He married Marcia Gleason on May 21, 1975 in the Washington D.C. Temple after they both completed college. He knew Marcia since the sixth grade. They went to Junior and Senior High School together and played in the bands. Following High School Paul enrolled in the University of Michigan - Flint where he was the only freshman in their Jazz Band playing trumpet. In 1978, Paul enlisted in the Air Force. In 1980 Paul was commissioned as an Air Force Officer and earned his Masters of Science Degree at The Air Force Institute of Technology. He was assigned to Hill Air Force Base as a Communications Maintenance and Electronics Officer. Following his commitment with the Air Force, Paul changed careers attending Weber State University earning his Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. While in nursing school he was a medic with the Army National Guard, Combat Support Hospital. Also, because of his love of playing the trumpet he auditioned for and became a member of the 23rd Army Band. Some opportunities he had to perform included accompanying the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, playing with the Utah Symphony and at the 2002 Winter Olympics held in Salt Lake City, Utah. Paul spent nineteen years serving as a Registered Nurse. The last thirteen years he worked as an R.N. Case Manager at the Huntsman Cancer Hospital. Paul was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities. His favorite callings were Primary Chorister, a Teacher and Ward Clerk. Paul is dearly loved by his eternal companion, Marcia Gleason Leix, his daughter, Emily and son, Adam Leix (Kimberlee Oveson) and their four children: Michael, Sophia, Isabelle, and Christian. Paul was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be extremely missed. Paul is also survived by his sister, Marilyn Leix, Kathleen Knight, and brothers Christian and Bill Leix (Carol Shaw Leix) all of Michigan. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday May 16, 2013, at the Garden's Chapel, Country Lane Ward, 9 West 550 South, Kaysville, Utah. Friends and family may visit Wednesday evening between 6 and 8 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 1941 N. Main, Farmington/Kaysville, or Thursday May 16, from 11:45 12:45 pm at the church.
