Jannetta Platts Rigby1920 ~ 2013BURLEY, IDAHOJannetta "Jan" Platts Rigby, age 92, of Burley, passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2013, at the Cassia Regional Medical Center in Burley.She was born on Dec. 29, 1920, in Heyburn, Idaho, the daughter of Chauncey William and Veda Hellewell Platts. Jannetta graduated from the Paul High School, Albion State Normal School, and Utah State University all with honors. She was a member of Phi Upsilon Omicron and Phi Kappa Phi. She completed a dietetic internship at the University of Chicago. She married Samuel Glade Rigby of Fairview, Utah, on June 21, 1956, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. He died on May 29, 1983. He was a chief engineer on tanker ships for more than 30 years.Jannetta worked as supervisor of the Salt Lake City schools cafeterias. She served in positions in the Utah State Dietetic Association and the Utah State Nutrition Council. She also worked as a hospital dietitian in Seattle, Wash., and Albany, California. She taught school in Idaho and in Bountiful, Utah, from 1963 until her retirement in 1981. She was a very dedicated teacher and enriched the lives of many students.Jannetta was an active member of the LDS Church and had served as a teacher and secretary in the Relief Society, and in ward and stake positions of the Young Women. She was also a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers and had compiled many family histories for the Platts and Hellewell families.She moved to Burley in 2008 to be near her family and resided at the Warren House Assisted Living in Burley.She is survived by many nieces and nephews who truly loved their Aunt. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Bernice; and her brother, Chauncey William Platts Jr.A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 15, at the Paul Cemetery, 575 W. 100 N., of Paul, with Bishop Clay Handy officiating.Friends may call from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. Wednesday morning at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley.
