Donald McLelland 1917-2013Donald McLelland 3/22/17 to 5/10/2013, 96 years young, Midvale, Utah. Born 22 Mar 1917 in S.L.C. Utah to Marshall and Della Eatough McLelland. Married Wilma Julia Kooyman, his lovely beautiful wife of almost 74 years on 11 Oct 39 in the Salt Lake Temple. Born into this Eternal Union were four daughters: Dawn (Clyde) Martinsen, Marilyn (Leon) Cobbley, Julie Smart Winter, and Shannon Bench; all of Salt Lake County.Don was the firstborn, preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings, three brothers; Kent, Gayle, and Jack, and two sisters Dorothy Aparacio Cohee, and Katherine McLelland. Don's family consists of 17 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren with two more on the way.Don would like to be remembered as a Boy Scout Leader. In his 55+ continuous years as a registered Boy Scout, he achieved Eagle and later in life awarded the Silver Beaver. But his pride was in the number of Eagle Scouts hatched during his watch. Many of these young men, scattered across the country, have returned to thank him for their good memories and accomplishments. In addition to scouting, Don served his church in many positions, including Bishop of a Singles Ward and on the Stake High Council.Business associates will remember Don as the senior partner (Frank Hogan and Dan Janssen) of H&M Electric Motor Service 1325 S Major Street. After his two partners passed, he renamed the company "McLelland Electric Motor" and moved to 3200 S. West Temple. Following an eye injury and Heart attack, Don sold the company and retired in 1982.Don lived the first half of his life in Sugarhouse and the last half in Fort Union (Midvale), Utah. He loved his family, and they loved him in return. He was a fun Grandpa; the grand-kids always wanted to go to Grandpa's and be with him in the Creek, on the dirt bikes, or snowmobiles and Saturday mornings for his famous dollar sized pancakes (who could eat the most). We thank Dr. Phil Roberts for his kindness, concern, and care; keeping Don in good health while stretching him to this ripe old age. Don is gone, but we will always have good memories. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, May 16 at the Union Fort 6th Ward, 540 East 7155 South, Midvale. Viewings to be held on Wednesday from 6-8:00 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. 10600 S, Sandy and also one hour prior to services at the ward on Thursday.
