ELKHART, Ind. — United will get another shot at Cathedral — and the national title.
After dispatching Colorado Springs 33-12 on Friday, the United Rugby Club will play defending national champion Cathedral in the high school club championship game Saturday at 1:15 p.m. MDT.
On Friday, Calvin Whiting, Zach Webber, Folo Ulukiviola, Kingston Matua and Ethan Brown all scored tries for the Alpine-based club. Connor Morris converted four of the five place kicks. Meanwhile, Cathedral — aka Royal Irish Rugby Club — needed overtime in its semifinal against Danville, 17-12.
That's good news for United, which is trying to avenge a 51-0 loss in last year's title game held in Utah.
In the single-school division, Herriman High School will play for fifth place after defeating defending champion Dixon (Calif.) 42-14. Sialao Mobley led the Mustangs with three tries and delivered several big defensive hits. AJ White, Gabe Ruflin, Devin Rasmussen, Jeremy Hinton, and Brandon Jensen also scored tries for Herriman on Friday.
The Mustangs will play Charlotte Catholic (N.C.) Saturday at noon.
"They spread the field and get the ball out fast, so we need to make sure and get set up on defense quickly at the breakdown and come up and be physical," said Herriman head coach Jeff Wilson said. "Offensively, we just need to run our pattern and stay with it and just keep possession."
