Donna ChildNovember 23, 1917 ~ May 15, 2013Donna Child, 95, of Salt Lake City, Utah, died May 15, 2013 of natural causes. She was born to Harry and Engrid Coleman in Salt Lake City on November 23, 1917. Donna married Raymond Alsterlind, who was killed in action in World War II. Later married Ramon Child, eventually divorced. A champion for the underdog, Donna gave willingly to the needy, fought for the rights of wives and children of veterans killed in action, and served as an officer of the Gold Star Wives. Donna started her own stenography business, Steno-Art, and later worked as an Administratrix, handling probate cases for the state of Utah. Prophetic in her zeal for nutrition, she admonished principles of health and healing that science would confirm over twenty years later. She cherished living things and was fiercely protective of her family and especially her grandchildren. Her hobbies included photography, gardening, antiques, playing bridge, dancing to big bands and listening to Frank Sinatra. Though her memory to most things eventually failed, her mind and body never forgot how to dance. She could still high kick into her 90's. Donna is survived by her son Todd (Wendy) Child, three grandchildren: Lana Gloschat (Chris), Carly Child, and Mitch Child; sister Audrey Hackett and brother Douglas Coleman. Preceded in death by her sister Gerrie Maughan & brother Ralph Coleman. The family wishes to express appreciation to the staff of St. Joseph's Villa and especially Terri for the kindness in caring for Donna. In respect of Donna's wishes, there will be no formal services.
