A defenseman in the Canadian Hockey League has decided to leave the sport to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
For the past four years, Tyler Hansen, 20, has been playing for the WHL's Kamloops Blazers. He confirmed in an interview Sunday that he has probably played his last game because he's decided to serve a two-year Mormon mission, according to kamloopsthisweek.com.
“I’ve pretty much already made up my mind,” Hansen told local media. "It’s about what I think is best for me, realizing there’s more to life than hockey. My chances of coming back are slim. I pretty much just have to talk to my parents and call (Blazer GM Craig Bonner).”
