WEST VALLEY CITY - A local business has donated funds to help kids of all abilities be more active.
Harmons presented a check for $225,000 to Special Olympics Utah at Whittier Elementary School in West Valley City, Thursday. The presentation launched the Young Athletes program, which includes children of all abilities playing together to aid development.
For 19 years, Harmons has teamed with Special Olympics to organize fundraising events at its stores including Harmons annual Bowl-a-Palooza, charity golf tournament, in-store root beer float, Special Olympics icon, and a portion of frozen food sales to fund Special Olympics programs.
Special Olympics Utah has recently added Young Athletes to its programming to reach young children and their families at a critical developmental stage. Through the Young Athletes program, children ages 2 1/2 to 7 enjoy games and activities that develop motor skills, hand-eye coordination and enhance social development. Young Athletes is an early introduction to sports and to the world of Special Olympics
